10 great things I'm Learning About Oil Painting
First it's so much fun, enjoyable and relaxing when I'mpainting. It's been a journey for sure! I have my good and challenging days. On my good days, I paint. On my challenging days, I relax, sometimes I write.
I've spent my first year after suffering from a stroke in June 2021 learning about watercolor painting. Second year learning about acrylic painting, and now my third year I've decided to learn about oil painting. I evolveartist.com and, well I'm learning so much about oil painting, and values, shadows and reflections and highlights. I never thought about all the parts of painting till now. This journey is the best thing ever for me to experience. I can't wait to share with you later how my art form is changing and drastically
improving. Ok. Enough of that.
Ten Things I'm Learning About Oil Painting:
1. Versatility: Oil paints offer a wide range of techniques and styles, allowing artists to explore various genres and approaches. Through Evole.com artists, I'm venturing to learn about how to use oil painting as part of my next experiment as an emerging artist.
2. Rich Colors: Oil paints have vibrant pigments that can be mixed to create an endless array of colors, allowing for expressive and dynamic artwork.
3. Longer Drying Time compared to watercolor and acrylics: The slow drying time of oil paints gives artists more flexibility to work and make changes over an extended period, enabling them to refine their compositions. Typically my paintings take approximately 3 days to dry.

4. Layering, my favorite part: Oil paints allow artists to build up layers, adding depth and complexity to their artwork. This technique is especially useful for creating realistic textures and details.
5. Blending: Oil paints can be easily blended together on the canvas, allowing for seamless transitions between colors and creating smooth gradients. Did somebody say gradients? LOL!! I'm certainly learning how very important gradients can be in a painting. It's certainly been a challenge, but I'm learning.
6. Texture: Artists can manipulate the texture of oil paints by using different tools and techniques, adding tactile interest to their artwork.
7. Timeless Tradition: Oil painting has a rich history dating back centuries, with countless masterpieces created in this medium. Learning oil painting connects emerging artists to a timeless tradition of artistic expression.
8. Professional Quality: Oil paints produce professional-quality results that can be preserved for generations with proper care, making them a valuable investment for serious artists. I'm loving how my art looks, especially when I place it in a frame.
9. Therapeutic Benefits: This part is especially important to me. The process of oil painting can be therapeutic, providing a creative outlet for self-expression and relaxation.
10. Community and Resources: There is a vibrant community of oil painters worldwide, offering support, inspiration, and resources for emerging artists to learn and grow in their craft. Get involved. Find others who to are oil painters, or are experimenting like me.
