Drawing & Painting Improves Various Aspects of Your Life and Skills
After suffering a stroke in June 2021, I was not immediately aware of how important art would touch every area of my life; inside and out. Here's many ways becoming creative has impacted me in many positive ways. I'm wondering if you can relate.
1. Creativity: Being creative encourages you to think outside the box and come up with unique ideas. Recently I discovered that I'm actually good too at some “light” photography.
The photos above were taken while on a walk. I don't see myself as a photographer, but I had so much fun snapping away at things I came across. See a pattern? Yes, I love flowers in all their beauty.
2. Observation: It sharpens your ability to observe details in the world around you. Everywhere I go I see art, creativity in all things.
3. Patience: Being creative requires patience and perseverance, teaching you to stick with a task until completion. And trust me, I've gone from finishing a painting within 45 minutes, to now being able to sit 4 hours or more on one painting. I'm amazed, because before, that would frustrate me.
4. Concentration: Yes please!! It helps improve your focus and concentration as you work on capturing details.
5. Problem-solving: Finding solutions to artistic challenges enhances your problem-solving skills, believe it or not.
6. Fine motor skills: Drawing involves precise movements, which strengthen your fine motor skills. With much practice I'm now able to use both my left arm which was impacted by the stroke, and my right hand, which is my dominant hand. I “practice” almost every day.
7. Visualization: It enhances your ability to visualize concepts and objects in your mind before putting them on paper. If inclined to do so, you're able to see like an artist.
8. Communication: Drawing can be a powerful tool for communication, allowing you to convey ideas visually.
9. Emotional expression: It provides a means for expressing emotions and feelings in a non-verbal way. Ever try drawing your feelings or emotions? Try it. It's fun.
10. Self-confidence: As you see your skills improve over time, drawing boosts your self-confidence and sense of accomplishment.
What could you add to this list? Let me know.
