I can't believe we're at the end of the month. As May, Mental Health Awareness Month, draws to a close, it's natural to reflect on all the conversations we've had, the truths we've shared, and the awareness we've built. But awareness, while vital, is just the beginning. The real work, the work of nurturing our own mental well-being and supporting others, is a continuous journey.
Just like we practice our art not for a single masterpiece but for the joy of the process itself, mental health isn't a destination we arrive at and check off a list. It's an ongoing practice, much like rebuilding mobility after a setback; it requires consistent, gentle effort, not a sprint. We know from our own lived experiences that feelings of frustration, sadness, or anxiety don't magically disappear at the end of a calendar month. I wish it were that simple.
This is where the power of sustained action comes in. Remember how we talked about using art to release that "stinking thinking" or just to find a moment of fun and freedom? That doesn't stop just because May ends. It's about integrating those small, mindful acts of self-care and creativity into your daily rhythm, whether it's five minutes of sketching, a short walk, or just allowing yourself to feel what you feel without judgment.
It's also about carrying forward the conversations we've started. Keep checking in with your creative people, listen with an open mind, and don't shy away from talking about mental health with the same openness you'd discuss physical health. Every time you choose compassion over judgment, every time you offer a listening ear, you're sustaining the momentum of a more understanding world.
So, let's commit to making mental well-being a year-round priority. It's about showing up for ourselves and for each other, not just for a month, but always.
Gentle Assignment for Day 30
Today, consider this: What's one small, sustainable practice you can commit to carrying forward from this month into your everyday life?
Think about something that truly nurtures your mental well-being or helps you connect with others in a meaningful way. Maybe it's a quick burst of carefree drawing, a new habit of checking in with a friend once a week, or simply making space for quiet contemplation.
Pick something that feels achievable, enjoyable, and can become a regular part of your rhythm, helping you sustain your personal momentum long after May ends.
Well my friends, any comments, questions, compliments? See you tomorrow. 🥰
