No one can do you better than you. Embrace where you are no matter what. ✨️
-Michelle Joy Brown
I am embracing where I am today. As I sit here thinking about my newest journey as an artist; I am excited, doubtful, a little anxious, unsure of the future and still I am ready to embrace the unknown. I’ve never seen myself as an artist, but I'm embracing the thought of it.
Joining my writing with art sounds amazing. I’m definitely entering uncharted waters and it’s not easy, but I have so much support from my family and friends. ❤️ Perfectionism has been my biggest challenge. As a previous psychotherapist and college professor bringing exceptional skills to the table was expected. Now as an artist I’m giving myself a bit of grace to be imperfect when I'm in my studio. I'm learning so much about this side of things; the joy of creativity! Right now I begin each painting with a mark; then I take it from there and create - whatever may come.
Someone mentioned to me that I should sell my art. I hesitated and immediately said no. But now, 4 months into painting I sold my first piece of art. It was never my goal to sell my art. My goal has beento paint for 2 reasons:
To create my own personalized holiday cards (for my family and friends): because the big box stores cost me $72 in 2021. Never again!!!
I wanted to use art as a form of physical therapy after suffering from a stroke, to help me relax, slow down and stop breaking all my dishes. At the time of this writing it’s been over 2 months since I broke something. Hallelujah!! 🤪
To my friends who said, “girl you better put your art on Esty”, thanks, I will. I sold my first piece of art and I am so excited! I am embracing this new journey. And I’m ok being perfectly imperfect.
I wish to encourage each of you, no matter what you are going through: know that there is HOPE on the other side. Just hold on. Stay as strong as you can. But, cry if you need to. Scream if you must. Call on a friend. Get support. Then grab onto your love, joy, peace and kindness and then share it.
I am so grateful for my family and friends, and all the amazing people that were my angels along the way at the hospital, rehabilitation center, and all the doctors and nurses, but especially my personal nurse L.S. at the insurance company. I’m still here because people still know how to pray, send love, and work together to create miracles while saving lives. I am forever grateful 🙏
