Artists, this is your gentle reminder that rest is a creative act, too. 🥰 This acrylic painting is waiting for me to finish it. But, first, I need to rest. I'll try to remember to post it when it's completed. 😌
Some days, my creative energy is on fire. Other days—like today—I’m just tired. Fatigue is a weekly foe after suffering a stroke. But even on low-energy days, I have gentle rituals that help me stay
connected to my art:
1. Keep a sketchbook handy.
Pens, pencils, markers — whatever’s close. I scribble. I doodle. I jot random ideas. It all counts.
2. Study and watch art videos.
I don’t have to be “doing” all the time. Watching others create, taking notes, and soaking up technique keeps the inspiration flowing.
3. Breathe.
And by that, I mean: I let myself relax. Sometimes breathing looks like Netflix, not a new painting. Or sitting in my backyard. And that’s okay.
4. Take a break from social media.
No matter what Facebook is shouting—“weekly uploads!” “monetization!” “new content every day!”—I’ve learned to tune it out when I need to.
There’s a lot happening right now:
A new website in the works
A solo exhibition on the horizon
All the invisible labor of being a full-time artist
Some days I feel like I’m also curating my life. And honestly? That’s a big job.
So today, I rest. Because rest is part of the creative process, too.
